Interested in being part of Habitat before the building begins? We have a number of committees working behind the scenes.
Site Selection Committee:
The Site Selection Committee is responsible for identifying suitable building lot locations for Habitat homes in Northern Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties. The work includes: assisting the Board in developing a land acquisition plan and making recommendations for the purchase or acceptance of gifts of land; investigating properties offered for sale or donation for potential code and zoning issues, liens or other legal problems; developing relationships with the local brokerage community for referral; and working with the Partnership Selection Committee to identify geographic areas of need for Habitat housing based on interest from applicants. Email xxxxxxx for more information.
Family Selection Committee:
The Family Selection Committee works to carry out Habitat’s vision by searching for people in need of decent, affordable housing. Family Selection consists of dedicated volunteers who help manage the process of sending out and reviewing applications, interviewing families and communicating with families who are working toward their dream of home ownership. Email Priscilla Petta for more information.
Community Outreach Committee:
We are forming a new committee for Habitat for Humanity of Northern Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties. A primary goal of this committee is to forge relationships with churches and other like-minded organizations in the communities that we serve. In doing so, HFH hopes to increase the number of families we are able to provide affordable, simple, decent housing to. We are looking for people with excellent organizational, relationship and communication skills who are empathetic, considerate, helpful, team oriented, caring, supportive and patient. Flexibility and dependability are a must! Email Gary Brunick for more information.
Volunteer Coordination Committee:
The Volunteer Coordinator Committee is responsible for maintaining the volunteer database, volunteer contact and communication, and general office duties. Members of this committee should detail-oriented and comfortable with computers. Communication skills are a must as members of this committee are in direct contact with volunteers and donors. Email Tari Bacon for more information.
Construction Committee:
The Construction Committee works with the Site Selection Committee to evaluate potential sites, creates workable housing plans, develops systems and schedules for organizing families and volunteers for construction, and establishes contacts in the professional community. This committee should include design and construction professionals, people with knowledge of building materials, practices and codes, and people skilled in the organization of labor and managing volunteers. Email xxxxxxx for more information.
Partnership Committee:
The Partnership Committee works with the selected family to guide them through the process of realizing ownership of their new home. The committee provides a support system for the family as well as education about financial obligations, being a good neighbor and how to maintain a home. All aspects of the site improvement, construction, house plans, interior appointments and landscaping are worked through with the family. In return, the family agrees to fulfill their financial and sweat equity requirements. Additionally, the committee reaches out to all prior families each year by providing informational workshops on career planning, budgeting and other relevant issue to homeowners. Email Antoinette Jackson for more information.
