Interested in being part of Habitat before the building begins? We have a number of committees working behind the scenes. 

Church Relations Committee

This committee cultivates relationships between Habitat and local churches. Activities of this committee include, working closely with other committees to ensure that Habitat needs are promoted in local churches, arranging for presentations, information tables, flyers, etc. to raise awareness about Habitat in local churches.  Recruit and nurture the support of sustainable faith communities.   Act as liaison to all church and religious organization, builds a prayer network, and maintains a focus on living out the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Educate the community about the need for simple, decent and affordable housing.  Additionally, works to Secure successful, long-term and consistent funding partners, and supplies volunteers for Board and committee positions.  Seek new Covenant Churches, and maintains ties with current Covenant Churches.  This committee is recruiting new numbers, email if you are interested in joining.

Site Selection Committee:

The Site Selection Committee is responsible for identifying suitable building lot locations for Habitat homes in Northern Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties. The work includes: assisting the Board in developing a land acquisition plan and making recommendations for the purchase or acceptance of gifts of land; investigating properties offered for sale or donation for potential code and zoning issues, liens or other legal problems; developing relationships with the local brokerage community for referrals; and working with the Partnership Selection Committee to identify geographic areas of need for Habitat housing based on interest from applicants.  This committee is recruiting new numbers, email if you are interested in joining.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is responsible for developing the annual budget, developing written procedures and policies for mortgages – including a delinquency policy/procedure), access to VISA Check Cards, makes recommendations for major financial expenses, other financial matters.  Email for more information, or if you are interested in joining this committee.

Family Selection Committee:

The Family Selection Committee works to carry out Habitat’s vision by searching for families in need of decent, affordable housing. The Family Selection Committee consists of dedicated volunteers who review applications, interview families and communicate with families who are working toward their dream of home ownership. In addition, the Family Selection Committee will recommend possible partner families to the Habitat Board of Directors.  Email for more information, or if you are interested in joining this committee.

Community Outreach Committee:

The Community Outreach Committee is dedicated to raising the community’s awareness and understanding of Habitat’s mission. Our objectives are to help find volunteers willing to donate time, goods, or services and reach families in need who are potential partners for a Habitat project. Members of this committee must be committed to attending community volunteer events, development of events and fundraisers and church outreach. Volunteer Coordination Committee:

The Volunteer Coordinator Committee is responsible for maintaining the volunteer database, volunteer contact and communication, and general office duties. Committee members schedule build crew volunteers, as well as lunch donations to feed build crews.  They also assist in scheduling staffing other Habitat events as needed.  Members of this committee should detail oriented and comfortable with computers. Communication skills are a must as members of this committee are in direct contact with volunteers and donors.  Email for more information, or if you are interested in joining this committee.

Construction Committee:

The Construction Committee works with the Site Selection Committee to evaluate potential build sites, helps develop housing plans to suit the partner family needs, develops schedules to help execute a successful  build with the coordination of work tasks and volunteers, establishes contacts in the professional community to help support the build and the affiliate as well as other tasks to help manage the build process.  This committee should include design and construction professionals, people with knowledge of building materials, practices and codes, and people skilled in the organization of labor and managing volunteers. Family Partnership Committee:

The Partnership Committee works with the selected family to guide them through the process of realizing ownership of their new home. The committee provides a support system for the family as well as education about financial obligations, being a good neighbor and how to maintain a home. All aspects of the site improvement, construction, house plans, interior appointments and landscaping are worked through with the family. In return, the family agrees to fulfill their financial and sweat equity requirements. Additionally, the committee reaches out to all prior families each year by providing informational workshops on career planning, budgeting and other relevant issue to homeowners.  Email for more information, or if you are interested in joining this committee.

Business Development Committee:

The Business Development Committee works with the board on fundraising and all related activities.  The committee must be passionate about the Habitat mission and comfortable seeking donations, organizing events and networking within the community.  Email for more information, or if you are interested in joining the committee.
