Bringing families and communities in need together with volunteers & resources to build decent, affordable housing. We are a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization. Throughout Washington, Warren and Northern Saratoga counties, people of all faiths, races and backgrounds work together in equal partnership, building new relationships and a sense of community.

Since 1991, with the support of local communities, church groups, corporations, small businesses and professional organizations, our affiliate volunteers have built many houses, each in partnership with a local family.

Three factors make Habitat houses affordable to low income people worldwide:

Habitat houses in the US and Canada are modestly sized by North American standards.

How does Habitat Work?

With volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent homes in partnership with selected families. Habitat houses are financed with affordable, no-interest loans and sold to partner families at no profit. The Affiliate then reinvests the monthly mortgage payments, along with those from other families, to finance other projects.

Habitat does not give away houses. In addition to a down payment, taxes and monthly mortgage payments, partner families are required to invest hundreds of hours of "sweat equity" during the building of their house and the houses of others.

How is a Family Selected?

Families who are currently living in substandard housing and cannot obtain a mortgage through standard means may qualify. Selection is based upon need, ability to make monthly payments and willingness to volunteer time and energy to Habitat's work.
If your family, or a family you know, is in need of decent, affordable housing, contact Habitat at 793-7484. A Family Selection volunteer can give you information on the availability, size, costs and sweat-equity requirements for a Habitat home, as well as information on the application process.
Habitat for Humanity does not discriminate in the selection of families on the basis of race, creed, gender, disability, ethnic background or any other characteristic protected by law.
